Welcome to NICS Hockey Club

This is the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) Hockey Club web site. NICS plays its hockey in the picturesque grounds of the Stormont Estate in East Belfast. Besides being the home to the local Government administration, the Northern Ireland Assembly.

The grounds have hosted a number of events over recent years, including rock concerts, international cricket matches and cross-country running.

The club itself is affiliated to the Northern Ireland Civil Service Sports Association (NICSSA ) who maintains our playing facilities.

Anyone is welcome to join the club, whether public servant or not, We currently field 6 senior men’s teams & 3 ladies teams, so there is room for everyone to find their own level, and enjoy the use of the Whistles Bar in the Maynard Sinclair Pavilion, which is our clubhouse. Indeed, many of our members can be found there, enjoying some post-match socialising, late on a Saturday afternoon.

The Club also runs a Youth Section on Monday & Thursday evenings to help develop hockey skills for those not yet old enough to play Senior hockey.

The season has now finished and thanks to all who have played, umpired, supported and worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Have a great Summer, see you all in the Autumn!

There is a real necessity for official Umpires for next season. The Ulster Branch have forwarded an appeal, which you can view at

Ulster Hockey Umpire Appeal

We all know how important it is for officials to be present at most matches, therefore I would ask players coming to the end of their career, ex-players or enthusiasts to seriously think of pursuing this.

This season has brought a great deal of success for both the Mens' and Ladies' sections. Congratulations are in order for the Ladies and Mens 3rd XI's, both gaining promotion to Junior League 8 and Junior League 2 respectively.
